The Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas Movement, on Saturday vowed to continue with resisting the Israeli occupation till the full liberation of the occupied Palestinian lands.

The armed wing, in its statement issued on the 70th anniversary of the martyrdom of Sheikh Izzuddin Al-Qassam, said, "Sheikh Izzuddin Al-Qassam's blood addressed an obvious message to those who bet on the enemy and cling to his false promises". "There is no option before any nation seeking to regain its rights and dignity except Jihad and resistance," it noted.

Recalling the Sheikh's resoluteness in face of the British occupation, the Brigades pointed out, "After 70 years since his martyrdom, we recall such a great man, he is the man who revived a nation at a time when the Islamic Ummah (nation) witnessed a lot of men who aren’t mentioned with the passage of time".

"Al-Qassam was a courageous man at a time when valiant men who were ready to faithfully combat enemies, who spilled the bloods of innocent peoples, were very few," they pointed out.

The Brigade's statement affirmed that the Israeli pullout from the Gaza Strip was a "fruit of following Al-Qassam's model", which is the only way through which Palestinians could expel the Israeli usurpers from their homeland.

On 19/11/1935, Sheikh Al-Qassam was killed along with two of his comrades in a clash with the British occupation forces near the West Bank town of Jenin. The three were buried in city of Haifa, which is now under Israeli control. The Sheikh had settled in Haifa after fleeing his original Syrian town of Jibla to escape French occupation's prosecution for his role in resisting his country's occupation.
