Hamas-led security forces released the top leader of Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas' Fatah party in the Gaza Strip on Monday after a week-long crackdown across the coastal territory. "We have released Dr. Zakaria al-Agha as a sign of goodwill and in response to Arab and Palestinian efforts," Taher al-Nunu, a spokesman for the Hamas-run administration in Gaza, told AFP.

Agha had been detained by Hamas on Friday as part of a wave of arrests of Fatah supporters after a deadly beachside bombing killed five senior Hamas fighters and a little girl.

Meanwhile, 17-year-old Yousef Omaira was proclaimed dead on Monday after sustaining serious injuried by the hands of Israeli occupation forces a few days ago in Ni'lin village, west of Ramallah city. Palestinian medical sources said that Omaira was seriously injured while confronting the Israeli bulldozers.

Omaira is the second victim from the village within one week while confronting Israeli forces.
