Haj Pilgrims at Sharjah Airport hail airport services

Sharjah, UAE –Sharjah Department of Civil Aviation & Sharjah Airport Authority took measures to ensure the airport was fully equipped to meet the increase in passenger traffic as pilgrims flew in and out for Haj.

Sheikh Abdullah Bin Mohammed Al Thani Chairman, DCA Sharjah had issued special directions to ensure the smooth travel process of all pilgrims and to provide the best facilities and services for the pilgrims.

The airport has provided a rest area for all pilgrims before their flight where refreshments are offered. Also, a religious teacher from the Islamic Department was available to answer questions and queries regarding Haj.

Manager of Terminal Services Mr. Khalifa Al Jari said, “We are pleased to have assisted the pilgrims who flew on Haj through Sharjah International Airport. The airport had increased the number of porters to help pilgrims with their luggage hence making sure of passenger comfort and easy movement through the airport. At the terminals, staff were available to provide assistance to the pilgrims with the new services in place during the Haj season and were praised for the airport’s services and efforts made. At all times, airport personnel were able to efficiently handle the flow and needs of pilgrims and passengers, making the journey easier for travellers despite the increase in passenger traffic at the airport. Due to the competent efforts of the airport employees, a smooth flow of routine and security were in place during the Haj flights.”

A detailed film on Haj was shown on the airport plasma screens during the pilgrims stay at the rest areas provided for them.  Available to the pilgrims were Haj books and small guides in different languages to help pilgrims on their journey, especially those making the pilgrimage for the first time.

The first Haj flight arrived on the 4th of January with Indian airlines carrying 185 passengers. Royal Brunei soon landed with 230 passengers returning from pilgrimage. Airlines which increased their frequency during the Haj period were Royal Brunei Airways which operated 9 flights to Jeddah carrying 2250 pilgrims, Indian Airlines operating 63 flights with 15,000 pilgrims. Saudi Arabian Airlines and Air Arabia also carried a large number of passengers. On their return journey, friendly staff members from the airport’s HALA department were on hand to the welcome the pilgrims and aided them with all their travel formalities and procedures.
