ALBAWABA - Turkish police announce thwarting an attack on Çağlayan Palace of Justice and killing two gunmen who were planning the attack. 5 people were injured, including two policemen.
According to Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, an attempt was made to attack the checkpoint in front of Gate C of Istanbul's Çağlayan Courthouse at 11:46 today. Two attackers, one woman, and one man, were killed. Five people were injured, including three police officers.
Reports say that the attackers belong to the "terrorist" Revolutionary People's Liberation Party/Front in Turkey.
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation, according to Turkish Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc.
The attack occurred on the same day that Turkey was commemorating the anniversary of an earthquake in the country's south that killed over 53,000 people.
Çağlayan, also known as the Istanbul Justice Palace, is a massive court complex located in the Kagithane district on the city's European side. It opened in 2011 as Europe's largest courthouse, heavily guarded and with multiple entrances.
