Gunmen attacked a private TV station in the heart of Kabul on Tuesday, killing at least one worker, officials and witnesses said.
One of the assailants detonated his explosives, paving the ground for others to enter the building, an area resident told Pajhwok Afghan News.
An exchange of intense gunfire between the security forces and the assailants erupted after the explosion, he said.
Kabul police spokesman Basir Mujahid confirmed the attack, fearing casualties. However, specific figures are yet to be ascertained.
One of the attackers was killed but others -- armed with rifles and hand grenades -- clashed with security personnel.
Soon after the assault on Shamshad TV, the Taliban denied the group’s involvement. The group’s spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid said they had nothing to do with the attack.
