A new report by Britain's Guardian newspaper alleges that Egypt's army opened fire on "largely peaceful and unarmed civilians" in the July 8 shootings outside the Republican Guard club.
At least 51 people were killed, and more than 400 injured.
The Guardian report, which disputes the army's account that its troops were attacked first, includes numerous interviews and video analyses.
Among the Guardian's findings:
- No evidence was found that the army came under attack by armed motorcyclists, as it has claimed.
- While official footage shows a handful of Morsi supporters with guns, accounts suggest that the protestors only engaged in violence after the attack began.
