Greg Hunt: setting the bookshelves racing; on two Top Ten Bestsellers Charts in the UAE

Hunt’s first book They Saddle Dogs which reached the UAE’s bookshelves early April this year, continues to stay on Gulf News and Magrudy’s Top Ten best sellers charts

Dubai, UAE May 2007: After entering the Magrudy’s Top Ten bestseller chart (Early Export Edition) at number six and the Gulf News Chart (Non-fiction) at number ten, They Saddle Dogs, the inaugural book from Greg Hunt, one of the UAE’s leading media personalities, looks to be holding its own. It will be launched in Bahrain later this month.

They Saddle Dogs, has caught the attention of avid readers. Dubai-based Jane Mathew said: ‘As a fellow Dubai resident, I just had to buy your book, and I loved it’.

‘I am now on a personal campaign to tell everyone to read it to have fun, to stir out of the shopping malls and wish they were driving off somewhere. It is a very good read’.

Meanwhile, further afield in Saudi Arabia, Peter Pocock writes:  ‘I have to say that this was probably the best and most entertaining non-fiction book that I have ever read’.

‘I found your hilarious accounts of Middle East life entirely accurate, while the moral issues, death and family feelings make the book rise above simply being a funny collection of expatriate memories’.

‘My only criticism would simply be that I would have liked the book to have been longer!’

The story is a vibrantly described, experience-filled road journey from Abu Dhabi to London, in Hunt’s trusty Nissan Pathfinder, leading They Saddle Dogs to be described as a quirky hybrid between a novel, a snapshot biography, and a travelogue.

The factual and sometimes humorous prose, delves into the intricacies of euthanasia and parent-sibling communication, and unfolds as Hunt recounts his sometimes mind-bending and at other times heart-rending battle with his dying father’s last request to help assist his death.

Greg Hunt is a well-known print and radio journalist. He is the founding publisher of the region’s inaugural finance magazine, MoneyWorks and a weekly columnist for 7 Days.
