ALBAWABA - A group of anti-war protestors in Alexandroupoli, Greece, defiantly blocked a train carrying US and NATO tanks as a protest against the military deployment.
Protesters held a demonstration organized by the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) in which they sang chants describing Alexandroupoli as a harbor for people instead of castles of imperialism.
The demonstrators effectively stopped the train's movement by erecting barricades on the railway, bringing attention to the transit of NATO military weapons through the area. This move, close to the borders of Bulgaria and Turkey, shows a growing resistance to military intervention, especially in light of the ongoing situation in Ukraine.
Palestinian flags, emphasizing solidarity with movements against oppression, were among the symbols of opposition. Notably, one demonstrator wrote the poignant words "Killers, go back home" on the tank itself.
The unrest in Alexandroupoli is indicative of a larger backlash against foreign meddling and militarization, which is reflected in appeals for peace and diplomacy throughout the world.
