The 14th Matterhorn Eagle Cup taking place in Zermatt, Switzerland is beckoning UAE golf fans looking for a relaxing escape from the summer’s sport stopping heat.

The competition, set to tee off on 6th August, takes places at the Riffleberg in the lofty Gornergrat area at almost 3000 metres above sea level.

A backdrop of 25 kilometres of summer ski slopes adds to the attraction of action-packed Zermatt which lures an increasing number of players and spectators from the Middle East, many of whom return year after year to enjoy the blend of cool sporting activity and sophisticated Swiss-style on offer.

“With the longest summer ski season in the Alps, Zermatt has long been attracting sport enthusiasts seeking respite from soaring summer temperatures in Arabia,” said
Wolfgang Pinkwart, general manager of Seiler Hotels, a consortium playing host to many of the golfers this year.

The invitation-only tournament is contested on a 9-hole stroke-play golf course surrounded by a natural alpine meadow.

Players and supporters alike can choose to continue the sporting action off course by taking advantage of the Gravity Park located at Klein Matterhorn. With its Olympic standard Super pipe it has become a practice ground for many of the world’s champion boarders who struggle to find snow elsewhere through the summer months.

There are also 400 kilometres of well marked walking and hiking routes which take you through pine-scented mountain forests, along the shores of calm Alpine lakes and to the ice-blue glaciers.

After all this activity guests can rest their weary limbs at one of the four Seiler Hotels properties in Zermatt – the Mont Cervin Palace, the Monte Rosa, the Hotel Schweizerhof and the Hotel Nicoletta – as well as the affiliated Riffelalp Resort 2222m, Europe’s highest altitude five star hotel.  More details are available at www.seilerhotels.ch.

Each hotel offers spacious accommodation and a variety of dining options. Lucky guests of the Mont Cervin Palace, Monte Rosa and Hotel Nicoletta can also enjoy free access to a new pool and wellness centre– perfect for relaxing at the end of each muscle-straining day.
