golf’s other hottest property comes to dubai for desert classic

Affluent golf lovers will have chance to part own
majestic residence at the home of golf

When Tiger Woods launches his bid for a second Dubai Desert Classic title later this month, one of the other hottest properties in golf will be attracting a good deal of attention behind the scenes.

Known for his steely concentration and ability to shut out distractions, even the world No.1 might be interested to hear that a precious part of his beloved Old Course at St Andrews could soon be linked to Dubai.

During Desert Classic week, investors will be offered the chance to buy and part-own the freehold of The Residence, 9 The Links, St Andrews, which has been described as “the most exclusive and exceptional property in the golfing world.”

Situated just a few steps from the hallowed turf of The Old Course - Woods’s favourite -
at the home of golf, the superb five-bedroom property has been beautifully restored and extended with 3,000 sq ft of living space and an exquisite interior.

With its sensational location overlooking the 18th Green and 1st tee and breathtaking views across the Royal & Ancient Golf Club, West Sands Beach, and the Swilken Bridge from its balcony and bay windows, it has been acclaimed as “The Royal Box of Golf”.

Its owners are travelling to Dubai to meet investors and discuss shared or fractional ownership, the fastest growing form of second home ownership in the luxury sector.

As well as equity in the property, owners will have use of The Residence for four weeks a year - two in high season, two in low season – while investors can purchase more than one share if they wish.

There will be no squabbling over who gets priority when the game’s great tournament, the Open Championship, is held at St. Andrews. During this week The Residence will be transformed into a private clubhouse for its owners and their guests.

Shares in the freehold of 9 The Links, St Andrews (www.theresidence-standrews.com) are currently available for £775,000 each, and while that may be well out of reach for the average club golfer, more affluent golf lovers will see it as a priceless opportunity too good to miss.

Toby Pocock, Managing Director of Fraction International Ltd., who specialise in luxury fractional real estate, is setting up meetings in Dubai for investors with the owners of The Residence during Desert Classic week.

“While fractional ownership is a relatively new concept in many parts of the world, The Residence will have instant appeal at the luxury end of the market, particularly for prospective buyers with an interest in golf, and there are many of those in Dubai,” he said.

“This is a unique, and probably once in a lifetime, opportunity to own a share in the most historic and charismatic real estate anywhere in world golf.”
