Two reportedly stray mortar shells fired from Syrian territory hit the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, the military said.
"They were apparently fired in error," an Israeli army spokesman told AFP, noting that the shells hit open ground and caused no injuries.
The Israeli government did not immediately respond, AFP reported.
The Golan Heights have been in a heightened sense of tension since the outbreak of the Syrian conflict more than two years ago, as stray mortar shells repeatedly fall into the territory. However, as of yet, there has only been a minor need for the occasional Israeli response.
Israel, which is technically at war with Syria, seized 1,200 square kilometers of the strategic plateau during the 1967 Six Day War, and later annexed it in a move the international community does not recognize, AFP recognised.
