Germany is preparing to send 1,200 soldiers to Syria to assist France in the battle against Daesh, AFP reports.
Army chief of staff General Volker Wieker told a local newspaper that, "from a military point of view, around 1,200 soldiers would be necessary to run the planes and ship."
The mission is expected to being "very quickly once a mandate is obtained," Wieker added. "The government is seeking a mandate this year."
Last week Germany offered to send Tornado reconnaissance jets to join allied forces in the fight against Daesh in Syria. The reconnaissance jets are expected to be backup for the French military mission.
