Lebanon should adopt neutrality in order to maintain the country's unity, head of the Free Patriotic Movement Gebran Bassil said Sunday.
“We are with neutrality that will help Lebanon maintain its unity and defend it from attacks by Israel,” Bassil said, after a visit to Patriarch Mar Beshara Boutros Rai at his summer residence in Diman.
“Neutrality is required from us and others, and is a strategic positioning,” he said.
“In the event that we take the decision to be neutral, we must make sure it can be implemented,” Bassil added.
The FPM head affirmed that his party is with Lebanon having a neutral stance from neighboring disputes and issues.
Bassil said that both internal and external conditions should be in place and there should be national conviction on neutrality.
Rai had reiterated his call for Lebanon to adopt a neutral stance during Sunday mass sermon in Diman earlier in the day.
