UAE Minister of Information Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed al-Nahyan will present a strategy for the GCC countries to fight against anti-Islamic attitudes in the Western media at the GCC summit in Oman that opens on Sunday.
The leaders of the GCC countries, concerned about the growth of anti-Islamic attitudes being expressed and promoted in the Western media, are working to counter the threat through a coordinated effort. In October, the information ministers for the Gulf countries decided to form commissions entrusted to "rectify the image of Arabs and Muslims both on the international scene and within GCC countries", and subsequently appointed UAE Minister of Information Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed al-Nahyan to head the media committee.
Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed al-Nahyan presented the new plan and strategy to the GCC ministers at their previous conference in Oman, and the strategy will now be presented to the leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council at their summit this week. The plan is a comprehensive media strategy aimed at countering the distorted image of Islam and of the Arabs and Moslems in the western mass media. (www.albawaba.com)
