Foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) will hold an extraordinary meeting in Jeddah on Wednesday to discuss the uprising in Palestine and attempts to revive Arab-Israeli peace talks, said the official Kuwaiti news agency, KUNA.
A GCC secretariat team headed by the council’s secretary general headed to Jeddah Tuesday to prepare for the meeting, said the agency.
The meeting, called for by Saudi Arabia, will focus on the Middle East crisis and international efforts to end the “constant Israeli persecution of the Palestinian people,” said KUNA.
Gulf sources cited by the agency said the GCC foreign ministers would during the meeting call for international protection for the Palestinian people and for pressure on Israel to stop all its "ploys and violations" against unarmed civilians in Palestine.
However, they did not rule out that the meeting would also discuss an array of political and economic issues related to boosting joint GCC action, particularly regarding the issue of Iraq.
The meeting is the third at the ministerial level this year. The last regular meeting was on June 3 in Jeddah at the council's 79th session – Albawaba.com
