A Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and European Union committee has been set up to discuss a project to export gas to Europe, according to UAE Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Obaid bin Saif Al Nasiri.
Although Japan is the UAE's biggest natural gas export market, greater cooperation with Europe in the future is a possibility with the setting up of a joint GCC-European Union committee for gas exports, he said, quoted by the Gulf News.
An European Union representative office will soon be opened in Riyadh, an EU official said last Wednesday.
The spokesman for the EU commission in charge of external relations, Gunnar Wiegand, said that the commission had decided to open a representative bureau in Riyadh for the six Gulf states.
Wiegand said that the EU's decision came due to the development of relations between the GCC and the EU.
