Israeli troops killed two members of Hamas' armed wing early Thursday, east of the southern Gaza Strip town of Khan Younis, Hamas officials said. According to Reuters, Palestinian paramedics said residents in the village of Abbassan called an ambulance to pick up the bodies of two members of the Ezz a Din al-Qassam Brigades.

The armed wing said in a leaflet sent to reporters that an Israeli elite unit penetrated an area east of the village and shot dead two stationed Hamas figters near the borders with Israel.

On Wednesday two Palestinians were killed during an Israeli strike in northern Gaza Strip, Palestinian officials said.  The Israeli side said ground forces hit "militants" who had launched three rockets from the Gazan town of Beit Hanun.

This Israeli strike came one day after a senior Hamas government official and deputy commander of the Popular Resistance Committees was killed in the Gaza Strip.
