Gunbattles raged between Hamas and Fatah gunmen in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, killing at least three people and injuring a dozen others, medical officials said.
Two security men from Fatah faction were killed in a running street battle with Hamas gunmen in Gaza City, hospital officials said, according to Reuters. Five children were also injured.
Two other Fatah security officials were kidnapped and killed by Hamas gunmen, Fatah officials said. Hospital officials said the two bodies had been dumped in a street.
Earlier, a gunbattle erupted between Palestinian police loyal to Hamas and Fatah fighters at the main hospital in Gaza, killing one person and injuring several, witnesses said. According to Reuters, they said the gunbattle occurred at the entrance and inside the compound of the Shifa Hospital in Gaza City.
The person killed was reported to be from the Hamas side.
Gunmen from Fatah and Hamas also had exchanged gunfire in Gaza City into the late hours of Monday further straining a shaky truce between the rival Palestinian movements.
Elsewhere, the car of the governor of northern Gaza, a prominent Fatah member, was hit by gunfire. The governor, Ismail Abu Shamallah, escaped injury, officials said.
