According to a recent survey, veterinarian practices in the UAE are treating an average of one case per day of gastro-enteritis in dogs and cats per clinic. This common condition, with similar symptoms to the human one, is prevalent throughout the Middle East, making it the key focus for this year's Middle East Vets Congress which takes place from the 6th – 8th May in Dubai. The congress, which is now in its fourth year, is organized by Arab Land Trading, the authorized distributor of Iams and Eukanuba premium quality nutrition for pets, who also conducted the survey. The three-day conference attracts vets from around the GCC and neighbouring regions, and enables them to remain updated on the latest industry advances and technological breakthroughs.
Key note speaker at this year's congress is Dr. Stan Marks BVSc, PhD, DACVIM from the University of California. A specialist in gasteroenterology, Marks will present the latest research findings, treatments and medical advances in the diagnosis and treatment of gastroenterology related conditions.
"Primary causes of gastro-enteritis are poor nutrition, a lack of preventative healthcare such as regular worming, and access to unsuitable drinking water, including swimming pool and irrigation water," said Marks. "Gastro-enteritis, if untreated, is a potentially life threatening digestive problem, but is easily treated. I am delighted to be part of the Middle East Vet Congress and to be able to offer additional insights and latest research we have conducted in the US."
The Middle East Veterinarian Congress runs from 6th-8th May at the Murooj Rotana Hotel in Dubai. A workshop for veterinary nurses will take place during the Congress, focusing on the importance of healthy nutrition and special diets in treating gastro problems.
