Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) announced that it founded an operations room to directly monitor the transportations inside the complexes using Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) system, to take the necessary procedures towards the impediments that delay the smooth running of the transportation process.
During the opening of the new room at the Public Transportation Operations Department, Manager of Amman City, Eng. Ammar Gharaibeh, was briefed on a detailed explanation by the Director of the Department, Eng. Abdel Rahim Wreikat, about the control system of the complexes through the Room, and about referring the message to the concerned parties to take the necessary procedures to organize the public transportation lines and avoid any impediment.
Monitoring public transportations shall contribute to improving and developing the quality of the services of the public transportations by getting direct daily reports helping the officials to make the right decisions.
Eng. Gharaibeh emphasized that GAM achieved many positive steps that impacted the public transportation system during the last couple of years, highlighting the deep interest of the mayor of Amman in the development and improvement of the public transportation system.
Eng. Gharaibeh commended the fruitful cooperation between GAM and the partners in this area, to upgrade this vital and important sector in the Capital, stressing that reaching an integrated advanced public transportation system is based on interaction and participation among all the concerned parties.
Gharaibeh declared that GAM has already awarded the tender of the first phase of the quick frequency buses project which will be initiated soon.
The Manager of Amman City pointed out that the first phase of the project will be in Queen Rania Al Abdallah Street, and indicated that GAM has started conducting the necessary studies for the first phase of Amman Train project; the study is expected to take about one year and to include the lines, costs, funding, and whatever alternatives needed for the accomplishment of the project.
The operations room includes CCTV system (security camera outdoors and indoors), using monitoring cameras, some of which are allocated for big transportation means (buses), and others are specialized to monitor small transportation means (service), and they are all installed inside the complexes. Besides monitoring, the Room will follow up on the big buses’ lines, watch their movement within the determined lanes, and take the required procedure against any violations caused by the drivers, such as changing the lane’s direction.
The Operations Room is equipped with an automatic system connected with the Kuwaiti company operating Al Mumayaz Taxi service; this addition enables following the cars’ movement and lanes as of the starting point until the arrival to better serve the citizen, in addition to GIS maps that clarify all the lanes of the means working in public transportation (buses and service cabs).
Through the Public Transportation Operations Department, GAM can get official daily reports on the movement of all vehicles operating in public transportation, which enables GAM take all necessary procedures towards developing the public transportation system in Amman, and eventually affect positively the quality service rendered to the citizens.
Within the inauguration event, the Public Transportation Operation Dept. held an honoring ceremony for all the concerned agencies in the public transportation sector in the Capital.
Eng. Wreikat stressed on GAM’s keenness to develop this vital and essential sector in every city, through the current projects and future plans set up by GAM, commending, at the same time, the cooperation of all the concerned parties to develop this sector.
It is worth noting that GAM is deeply involved in the public transportation sector, especially after transferring the sector’s responsibilities in Amman to GAM since 2007.
