Greater Amman Municipality’s (GAM) Council held an ordinary meeting, presided over by Mayor of Amman, Omar Maani, during which two tenders were awarded to implement hot asphalt mixes during this summer at different locations in GAM regions using basalt marbles.
Mayor of Amman said that this kind of mixes is to be used for the first time in the City’s streets, and it will positively affect the roads’ quality, as it is renowned for higher solidity and efficiency than other mixes, enduring, friction and decay resisting, saves the quantity of used asphalt, and it conserves the environment and city sustainability, through reutilizing the basalt marbles after rubbing them off when expired, unlike the current mixes.
He added that many streets of the city center soon will be “scraped”, and re-paved, especially that GAM concentrated lately on the sides of the city and the new regions’ streets.
The Council approved the decision of Properties and Acquisition Committee to sell a piece of land in Northern Abdoun, with a space area of 7560 m2 for 600 JOD per 1 m to one of the investors.
Omar Maani stressed that the reason behind selling the land is to pay for the land acquisitions in other locations of Amman city, which constitute fixed assets for GAM worth of millions of JOD’s, and many projects will be launched to benefit the future of the city and the citizens.
According to the selling decision, the buyer bears all fees and costs due upon the regulations and laws, in addition to the property transferring costs, and other costs.
The Council also approved the decision of applying the distribution law number 11 of the year 1968 in the towers area C, within the metropolitan plan project, by terminating the ownership and distribute again.
The pieces of land included in the decision, are limited to the regions: Um Al Qasir, Al Mgabalein, and Wadi Al Seer, as these lands will be distributed to the 1286 owners, sharing 572 pieces of land, including 6 pieces for the Endowments Ministry, and 3 pieces for GAM.
Deputy Director of City Planning and Economic Development, Engineer Ziad Rihani, clarified that the distribution decision was made because there is inconsistency of the pieces shapes and dimensions with the verified organizational regulations, inability of acquisition as theses lands cannot be constructed separately, and as the organizational regulations for proper construction purposes require engaging more than one piece.
The distribution law will create pieces of land with suitable dimensions corresponding to the special regulations, and will allocate one owner for every land, in the capacity of separate organizational occupancy.
Director of Special Projects at GAM, Engineer Bashar Haddadin, reviewed Amman Green Growth program, and the steps of the clean development project which aims at making Amman the first green city in the region by implementing projects that reduce carbon emissions. The Council members approved a draft agreement to be signed with the World Bank, as a donor of the carbon fund organization.
The Council further approved an agreement signed between GAM and Injaz Company to prepare the economic opportunities for the youth, including a financial support of 35,000 JOD from GAM’s fund to the Company to adopt a group of schools.
The Council verified the recommendations of the committee assigned to study the buildings surrounding the Citadel’s fence, and to provide a financial aid to the owners of damaged houses, to improve the general view of the neighborhood, as these houses will be removed.
Many resolutions have been approved during the meeting, namely, transferring ownerships of taxi offices, and moving name of other offices.
