Fugitive Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi on Tuesday denounced events unfolding in the country as a "charade." He was speaking in an audio message broadcast on Tuesday on Syria-based Arrai television.

"What is happening in Libya is a charade which can only take place thanks to the (Nato-led) air raids, which will not last forever," said the deposed ruler.

"Do not rejoice and don't believe that one regime has been overthrown and another imposed with the help of air and maritime strikes," Gaddafi said. "The political system in Libya is a system based on the power of the people ... and it is impossible that this system be removed," Gaddafi said.

Yesterday, Gaddafi's spokesman said the ousted leader is still in Libya directing his followers.
