The French University in Egypt is scheduled to open next October, reported Egypt Online.
According to the news service, President Hosni Mubarak expressed on Wednesday his full support for the establishment of the university, saying “specializations will be determined according to the needs of the market.”
He said the new university would keep away from conventional studies and would focus on the fields of engineering, technology, computers, information systems, and hotel management and other modern specializations needed by Egypt, according ot the the news service.
Mubarak’s remarks came during a meeting on Wednesday with Jean Gendois, the chairman of the Egypt-based French university's friends association.
Minister of Higher Education Mofid Shehab and French Ambassador to Cairo François Dopffer attended the meeting, said Egypt Online.
"We are working with the Egyptian side to speed up establishment of the university,” said Gendois, adding that “construction work will begin in five months.”
Shehab pointed out that the idea to set up a French university began three years ago when some Egyptian businessmen thought up the idea.
He said the new university would be established on an area of 100 hectars in Al Shrouq City, south of Cairo.
The Egyptian share of the university's cost will be 51 percent, while the French share of the project's $100 million in capital will be 49 percent, said the news service -- Albawaba.com
