Authorities in France on Wednesday released one of eight people arrested in connection with an April attack on a synagogue on the Tunisian island of Djerba, the man's lawyer said.
The man released was the brother-in-law of Nizar Nawar, the alleged suicide bomber that carried out the April 11 attack at the Ghriba synagogue, for which the al-Qaeda network later on claimed responsibility.
Still in French custody are seven other relatives and associates of Nawar, including his parents and brother, Walid, aged 22. They were detained and placed in preventive detention on Tuesday.
According to sources close to the inquiry, some would appear before an anti-terrorist judge in Paris while still in preventive custody, which can last up to four days for cases related to alleged terrorist acts, AFP said.
Attorney Laurent Sabatier, who represents both Nawar's brother and brother-in-law, said he could not say whether the seven would be transferred to Paris, as he had not yet been able to meet with any of them. (Albawaba.com)
