ALBAWABA- Four UAE Armed Forces soldiers were killed, and nine others injured in what the Ministry of Defense described as "an accident" while on duty, according to a statement released Wednesday by the state news agency WAM.
The statement provided no further details about the nature of the incident, but confirmed that the injured soldiers are receiving medical care.
Social media activists have speculated that the soldiers were killed in Sudan while allegedly supporting the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in their conflict with the legitimate government led by Abdul Fattah Al-Burhan, an allegation that the UAE rejected.
An Emirati official told Reuters in January 20214 regarding the claim that the UAE "does not take sides in the current conflict."
The source also noted that the UAE had "consistently called for de-escalation, a sustainable ceasefire and the initiation of diplomatic dialogue” in Sudan, the source was cited as saying."
The Ministry of Defence confirmed in a statement that four members of the UAE Armed Forces were killed and nine others were injured in an accident that happened on Sept. 24, "while they were carrying out their duty in the country."
