Four workers were killed and two others injured Monday when a blaze ripped through a cargo freighter under construction at South Korea's southern shipyard, firefighters said.

The fire erupted when the victims were working inside the cabin of the ore carrier being built at the Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. shipyard in Ulsan, 414 kilometers (257 miles) south of Seoul, firefighter Nam I-Sang said.

The exact cause of the fire had yet to be determined, but he said police and other investigators suspected welding flames might be to blame.

Firefighters extinguished the fire in 30 minutes.
