At least four suspected al Qaeda militants were killed Friday in a suspected U.S. drone strike in Yemen, a local government source told Reuters news agency.
The drone strike took place in Yemen's central al-Bayda province, Reuters said, where it killed the local al Qaeda leader there. The final death toll is believed to be 5, with 4 suspected al Qaeda militants.
Yemen is home to al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), and its President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi has cooperated with the United States in its attempts to combat the terrorist organization. The country's army, along with U.S. support, is currently fighting Al Qaida militants who regularly mount attacks on government buildings.
Earlier this month the U.S. embassy and others were closed across the Middle East because of an intercepted al Qaeda threat which stemmed from Yemen.
