FORTIS, the manufacturers and distributers of high end Swiss watches synonymous with the aviation industry, has today announced the launch of its latest innovative time-piece, the B-42 Al Tayar.

The B-42 Al Tayar has been in development for two years and features full Arabic calligraphy, including date information, and is the only watch available off the shelf that is completely Arabic. The watch features black matte hands, is steel brushed and water resistant up to 200m. It features the innovative incabloc shock absorbent system, which protects the clock’s movement system of the internal mechanism in the case of an unexpected physical shock.

Al Tayar means “The Aviator” in Arabic and reflects the fact that the watch will be specified to aviation industry standards, with a separate specification developed for the marine industry.

The watch was designed by Mahesh Shahani, a multi-lingual Dubai-based watchmaker, whose various experiences from living in Paris, New York, Casablanca and Rabat influences his work and helps in dealing with clients from all over the world.

Mahesh is managing partner of Gems World, the exclusive distributor for FORTIS watches in the UAE, and as Mahesh explained; “I was born and brought up in an Arabic culture and have always had an affinity with its traditions and language. Being involved in the watch making industry, I noticed that there was a lack of watches that reflected this culture and so I was always keen to try and produce one.

“I found the company in FORTIS who believed in carrying through the idea and who could offer the skills to be able to offer the quality and assurance I was seeking.”

The watch will be priced AED6, 000 and will be available in Gems World stores in Dubai, located in the Gold and Diamond park, the Hyatt and the Gold Souk.

Max Peter, FORTIS watches, said; “We are delighted to support Mahesh in this venture and help him bring his vision to fruition. We believe this watch will become very popular not only with discerning admirers of high-end watches throughout the Arab world, but collectors of exclusive time-pieces globally.”
