Former Sudanese prime minister, Ahmad al-Merghani will return to Khartoum June after 12 years in self-exile in Egypt, officials said Tuesday, cited by Kuwait’s news agency (KUNA).
Merghani, brother of the head of Sudan's opposition party Mohammed, expressed his desire to return to Sudan, they said.
Merghani, since President Omar Bashir led a coup against his government in June 1989, refused to use power against the government or to solve by force the crisis between the Sudanese conflicting factions, said the officials.
The former prime minister and his brother are chiefs of the United Democratic Party, the second biggest party in Sudan.
Meanwhile, Sudan’s Foreign Minister Mustafa Ismael said on Monday that he and his counterparts of Egypt and Libya will soon discuss efforts to reconcile opposition parties and the government – Albawaba.com
