Israel should take unilateral steps vis-a-vis the Palestinians that will create irreversible facts on the ground, Israel's former Jerusalem Mayor and current Trade and Industry Minister Ehud Olmert said Sunday.

Speaking at a conference in Jerusalem, Olmert said that Israel is much closer to this type of arrangement than reaching a peace agreement with the Palestinian people.

Olmert, who also serves as deputy prime minister, said that his country needs to define for itself what it must do, and to agree to a compromise based on a definition of its own interests - not because the Palestinians have "a right to parts of our land." (Albawaba.com)
