Turkish agriculture officials have detected cases of foot-and-mouth disease in cattle in four villages in the central Anatolian province of Konya, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), citing Anatolia news agency Friday.
Officials immediately imposed a quarantine on the villages of Cakillar, Dogrugoz, Yaylabelan and Canli, banning the entrance and exit of all animals, after confirming the presence of the highly contagious disease, Anatolia said.
Until now, foot-and-mouth cases had been concentrated in the United Kingdom, apart from those announced Friday in Turkey, said AFP.
