At least 115 women and children were struck by food poisoning at a wedding celebration in the Emirati city of Kalba in Dubai on Saturday, reported the Gulf News.
The paper said that police arrested the cook, who was also one of the victims, because he tasted the food before serving it to the guests.
He was arrested and questioned after hospital treatment.
All were discharged after being given anti-emetic injections and liquid vitamins, except for a 27-year-old woman, whose condition is still critical since she is suffering from leukaemia.
"Islam Zadah, the 25-year-old cook, was the only adult male to be affected by the food, which he had prepared in Dubai at the restaurant where he works. He tasted the food before serving it to the people at the celebration and he was poisoned," a medical source said.
The food was prepared one or two days before being consumed, and was badly stored and packed. The main items which spoiled were the barbecued meats, he said.
The owner of the Dubai restaurant was also arrested for questioning, said the paper – Albawaba.com
