Australia is likely to contribute a small number of troops to a United Nations peace-keeping mission to end the bloodshed in Sudan, Foreign Minister Alexander Downer said on Sunday.

"There's a good chance that we will send some troops to Sudan," he told the Nine Network Sunday programme

"It would only be a small number if we agreed to do it, but that final decision hasn't been made yet."

Downer said he was also considering whether the government would provide additional foreign aid following the conflict in Sudan's Darfur region.

Downer said the UN Security Council had yet to finalize resolutions for a UN force. (Albawaba.com)
