ALBAWABA- In a disturbing incident in central Sweden, at least five people were shot at a school in Örebro—approximately 200 km (124 miles) west of Stockholm—on Tuesday afternoon.
In a new update by the Swedish authorities, at least 10 people have been killed after a shooter opened fire with an automatic weapon at a school in Sweden, officials have confirmed.
Swedish police stated, "About ten people have been killed in the incident. We are currently working on identification. The total number of injured is currently unclear."
Five people who were shot inside the school in Örebro have been taken to A&E—four have undergone surgery, while one remains in critical condition. Authorities believe one of the injured is the perpetrator, who is male.
The attack took place at Campus Risbergska, an adult education center on the outskirts of Örebro, about 125 miles west of Stockholm.
The school serves students over 20 years old, offering vocational training, Swedish language courses for immigrants, and specialized programs for people with intellectual disabilities.
Police report that the incident, which occurred before 13:00 local time, was being treated as an attempted murder, arson, and aggravated weapons offense.
The shooting took place at a Komvux adult education center, typically attended by individuals who did not complete primary or secondary education.
Authorities have not yet determined the full extent of the injuries, and residents are being urged to avoid the area.
In response to the attack, police have confined students at nearby schools indoors for security reasons while they investigate the incident.
