Five people were killed Wednesday and 31 others injured in two separate car accidents in Iran, reported the official Iranian news agency, IRNA.
In the first incident, the agency reported that a collision between a bus and a car in western Iran left four dead and another four wounded.
Four occupants of the car died on the spot, while four passengers of the inter-city bus sustained severe injuries and were taken to a hospital in the western city of Hamedan, a police official said.
The accident occurred when the driver of the car, who was drowsy, swerved to the left, the police officer said.
Meanwhile, a collision between two coaches on the Tehran-Qom highway in central Iran on Wednesday morning killed one person and wounded 27 others.
According to the Tehran Fire Brigade, one of the drivers of the two buses lost his life in the accident.
The report further said that relief workers took the 27 people injured in the accident to various hospitals in the capital city of Tehran.
Traffic experts are examining the exact cause of the fatal accident.
Iran has one of the highest rates of road accidents in the world, with an average of 200,000 reported annually.
