An American air strike on the Iraqi ciry of Fallujah, west of Baghdad, overnight killed five people and injured six, a hospital doctor said on Friday.

According to Reuters, Abdul-Kareem al-Dulaimi, a doctor at a local hospital, said five houses were also demolished by the Americans.

Meanwhile, Shiite leader Muqtada al-Sadr ordered his fighters Thursday to hand control of a shrine in Najaf to top Shiite religious authorities, hours after Iraq's prime minister made a "final call" for the cleric's followers to surrender.

In a speech, interim Prime Minister Ayad Allawi had warned the al Sadr to disarm his forces and withdraw from the shrine after his government threatened to send a massive Iraqi force to root them out. (albawaba.com)
