Five Egyptian technicians were hurt Friday when an electricity transformer exploded in a major power station east of Beirut, which had been destroyed in Israeli air strikes in February, police said.
The explosion occurred at the Jamhour power distribution station, in the capital's eastern suburbs, they said.
A statement by the state electricity company EDL said "a number of technicians were carrying out experiments on a unit" which blew up because of a "technical problem."
"A number of technicians received light burns and were taken to hospital," it said, adding that only one of them "remained in hospital but was not in a dangerous condition."
The statement said the explosion caused a power cut, and EDL technicians were working to restore the electricity.
The Jamhour station was one of several power plants in Lebanon badly damaged by Israeli air raids in February. Israel repeatedly bombed infrastructure targets in Lebanon before its May 24th pullout from southern Lebanon.
