For the first time, Egypt has confirmed that some Egyptians are amongst the suspected al-Qaeda and Taleban fighters being held at the former U.S. naval base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Egyptian Interior Minister Habib el-Adli told Al Ahram daily that some Egyptians are amongst the 300 foreign nationals held at the facility.

He stated that the Egyptian detainees were from fleeing terrorist elements belonging to Osama bin Laden’s al-Qaeda network.

The foreign nationals were moved to the Guantanamo facility after their capture in Afghanistan.

He added that U.S. officials had not provided Egypt with the number of Egyptians being held. (Albawaba.com)
