First Case of Cyber Blackmailing Uncovered in Egypt

Egyptian Public Money Investigation personnel have recently botched a blackmail attempt by a computer engineer who threatened a local soda water manufacturer of keeping on the web pictures he had posted showing a cockroach in one of their bottles unless they paid him EP50,000 ($13,000 approximately). 

According to Al Ahram Arabic daily, the head of the consumer complaints department at the company informed the ministry of interior official of the case. The investigators staged an ambush for the blackmailer and his two accomplices before they arrested them red-handed while collecting part of the money from a company official.
