A fire has broken out in the market of Gabès in Tunisia before the Eid, according to Tunisian and North African press sources. The fire started in a central ally in the market which specializes in art work. Nearly twenty five stores had their merchandize burnt and damaged. Gabès is situated about 400 km to the south of the capital Tunis.

The Tunisian authorities do not believe it is a criminal act but rather an unfortunate incident caused by error. The artisans of Gabès have expressed solidarity with the merchants affected.
