Firefighters managed to extinguish a blaze that erupted at a shoe factory late Friday in the Greater Cairo neighborhood of Shubra, the London-based Arabic daily Al Sharq Al Awsat reported.

The fire, which took six hours to extinguish, caused extensive damage to the factory’s buildings and equipment.

"Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire, the cause of which was unknown, started in the factory’s main building, which contained wooden floors, and then spread to other buildings," the daily said, adding that public security agencies had begun their investigations immediately after the fire was put out - Albawaba.com
