In further signs of the military chaos in Syria, new videos on social media sites show intense fighting across the country.

In the largest city of Aleppo, air strikes by the Syrian regime have targeted several neighbourhoods held by rebel opponents.

The regime of President Assad is said to have made advances into areas controlled by the Free Syrian Army and the al-Qaeda linked al-Nusra Front.

The Syrian army has also bombed positions of ISIL militants in their stronghold of Raqqa, causing extensive damage.

More Kurdish fighters have also joined the fight against ISIL militants, as attempts continue to drive them out of Kobani.

US forces say they have also conducted 16 air strikes in Syria, most of them around Kobani near the Turkish border.

This as unconfirmed reports in the US say the government is reviewing its strategy against ISIL in Syria.
