FedEx Express, a division of FedEx Corp. (FDX: NYSE), the world’s largest express transportation company, today announced the appointment of Tayssir Awada, as Managing Director, Middle East Operations. During his 11 years in senior management positions with FedEx in Dubai, Awada has been responsible for launching several of the company’s most innovative customer services in the region, winning a number of FedEx awards for his team and himself along the way. In addition, Awada retains his role managing the Regional Customer Service function across the Middle East, Indian Sub-continent, Africa and Central Asia.
Awada completed his education in the USA earning his Engineering degree and subsequent Masters in Business Administration, Awada joined the FedEx Global Head Office in Memphis, Tennessee in 1986. He rose rapidly through the company’s ranks from Hub Handler to Courier, to Project Engineer and then onto various management positions. In Dubai – FedEx’s regional headquarters - he held several senior positions before becoming Senior Manager for Regional Customer Service and Middle East Operations.
Under his management, FedEx introduced the Next Day by 10:30 am delivery service from the Middle East to Europe and North America, set-up a distribution network enabling delivery by 12 noon across the GCC, launched the industry’s first 24/7 Customer Service in the UAE, Kuwait and Bahrain and created a network of FedEx World Service Centers, providing customers with convenient package drop-off points in those countries. He managed the regular roll-out of new processes and technologies across Customer Service centers in the region, providing customers with an enhanced experience of dealing with FedEx. His team has won several FedEx international awards while Awada himself has been honoured twice with FedEx’s prestigious Five Star Award in 2001 and 2004.
