Summer 2010 is definitely a season to look forward to, it is all about mixing the elegant with the outrageous. While still appreciating the trends of the past, it's important to mention that fashion is taking a big step in a new direction. It is all about smart looks paired with some sporty and delicate styles.

Neutral tones are very important for this season. It creates an elegant but also the "barely there" look. Champagne, beige and all the shades of grey are definitely in. These colours emerged due to an overwhelming use of prints and energy in previous seasons. Keep a close eye on these colours and make sure you have them in your wardrobe.

Heavy prints are surely important for this summer. Everything will be making their appearances in bold geometric patterns and animal prints. Stripes are still in but not in their usual form as we know them. Stripes will be more bold and bigger and will take on a new almost optical illusion feel.

Heavy printed leggings is a must have. For the past 10 years we had the skinny pant dominating the fashion industry. This trend led too the evolution of the legging in the past 5 years. This summer you will see a lot looser pants and it will be interesting to see which one of the two will be more popular. This suggests a possible end to the skinny jean decade.

Masculinity is very important. Blazers and vests are a must have but they're worn with shorts and leggings. Big shoulders are peeping back which means that the 80's are now officially vintage. Look out for the so called "leg of lamb" sleeves. You should have at least one outfit with a big sleeve. Don't miss you on it. . . .

Tunics, t-shirts and blouses just had another make-over. They are now short in the front and long at the back. It is the so called fishtail shirt. The back can be as short as a few cm's longer than the front or even as far down as the knees. Dress these tunics and t-shirts with something simple so that the focus can be on the fantastic style of the fishtail shirt.

Feathered dresses and skirts are definitely turning the volume up this season. Many of them in the neutral tones. Remember to keep it simple when dressing these with your neutral tops.

Fashion definitely had its share of the flannel look and that's why you will see that denim is peeking back to create that 90's look. It is easy to wear a nice denim jacket underneath your leather jackets or oversized blazers. It adds a nice layered look that is casual but still smart looking.

Although the days of torn jeans and patches don't seem too long ago, they're already back! They hint towards a fierce, strong character similar to the military jackets that have been in the spotlight these last few seasons. Dress these with a simple white t-shirt or blouse.

This summer is definitely about being different. The fashion norms have been pushed to their limits and the public are left with much more room to experiment with their own style. Individuality is the key at the end of the day so go out and shop at REDTAG for those key items that will help you to improve your outfit.
