The Joint Palestinian Security Force that was established in Ain al-Hilweh refugee camp last year failed to carry out its tasks successfully a visiting Fatah Movement official said, adding that there’s an ongoing conspiracy to destabilize the Palestinian refugee camps.

"The force, which was formed six months ago failed to carry out as planned and tasked," Azzam al-Ahmad, a Fatah Movement Central Committee member told Voice of Lebanon radio (100.5).

He noted that there are obstacles confronting the work of the security force, adding that "they should be resolved to confront outlaw groups."

The official denied a rift between Fatah members, emphasizing "its unity."

"There is an ongoing conspiracy against the Palestinian people and the Palestinian camps... but if we have the necessary will then we will control the security situation and prevent its deterioration."

The senior Fatah official met Tuesday with Prime Minister Tammam Salam.

He highlighted during the talks the importance of improving the living conditions of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon to prevent refugee camps from becoming a breeding groud for terrorists.

Ain al-Hilweh has witnessed a series of assassinations recently esclating tensions within Lebanon’s largest Palestinian refugee camp.

The latest assassination happened last month and targeted Fatah commander Col. Talal Urduni and his nephew.

The movement believes that members of the extremist Islamist group Al-Shabab Al-Muslim, which is comprised of Jund al-Sham and remnants of Fatah al-Islam, are involved in the killing.

Fatah retaliated three days later by attacking two members of the group, leaving them critically wounded.

The surge in violence in Ain al-Hilweh followed the relative calm enjoyed by the camp after the deployment of the elite Joint Palestinian Security Force.

The force was created in a bid to preserve stability in Ain al-Hilweh amid regional turmoil and fears that Palestinian camps in Lebanon could serve as a hub for ISIS [Daesh] and Nusra Front members.

Ahmad, who was accompanied by Palestinian Ambassador to Lebanon Ashraf Dabbour and Fatah Secretary Fathi Abu al-Ardat, also discussed the situation of Palestinian refugees with Army Commander Gen. Jean Kahwagi, Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblatt and Speaker Nabih Berri and Amal Movement politburo member Bilal Sharara.
