Families of 27 Libyan victims, killed in the American air strike on Benghazi and Tripoli on April 15, 1986, urged their government on Wednesday to stop all payments of compensation to the victims of Lockerbie until they are compensated.
Secretary General of a new NGO, dubed "The families of the American Aggression Victims Society", Mounir Mohammed Shermit told reporters that among the 27 victims was his eight year old daughter, his mother and father in law, the brother of his wife and her uncle, KUNA reported.
Shermit added that a number of houses were also destroyed and therefore the families of victims are demanding compensation for loss of life and damaged property, not less than what has been agreed in the Lockerbie case.
He added that his NGO would file a case against the US government in power at the time, the defense minister and the pilots who executed the strikes.
He noted that in addition to the 27 victims killed in the raid there were another 170 severely injured as well as 400 with minor injuries.
On April 15, 1986, U.S. warplanes bombed "selected targets" in the cities of Tripoli and Benghazi. One of those "selected targets" was the Libyan leader, Muammar Qadhafi's residence. A bomb killed his 15-month old daughter, and most of the other casualties of the raid were civilian men, women and children. (Albawaba.com)
