ALBAWABA – An Iranian court sentenced the daughter of former Iranian President Hashemi Rafsanjani for five years in prison.
Faezeh Rafsanjani's sentencing and verdict on Tuesday was confirmed by her lawyer, Nada Shams. The verdict can be appealed.

The pro-state ISNA news agency said the Tehran prosecutor indicted Rafsanjani last year for "propaganda against the regime." She was then arrested and transferred to the Evin prison.

Mass protests broke in Iran following the September death of Mahsa Amini while in police detention. She was arrested for failing to wear the Hijab in a proper manner, as authorities claimed. Subsequently, antigovernment demonstrations nationwide resulted in the death 481 people, according to the Center for Human Rights in Iran.
