According to witnesses at the scene, Jordanian security forces walked into an ambush at a militant hideout in the aftermath of the deadly attack in Karak earlier this week, the Associated Press reported.

Tuesday's gunbattle between security personnel and militants, the latest in a series of raids and attacks this week, left four more policemen dead.

Witness Rami al-Maaytah told the AP that the man who led the officers to the hideout ran inside and then opened fire on the police from the roof.

Local news also reported that during the attack on Karak's crusader castle, where militants were holed up inside, it took up to three hours for reinforcements and additional ammunition to arrive.

In total, 19 people were killed this week, among them 11 security personnel, two Jordanian civilians, and a Canadian tourist. Five gunmen were also killed in the firefights.

Daesh claimed the attacks on Sunday, spurring raids for more suspects around Karak.
