ALBAWABA - The South Korean military reportedly said that North Korea sent an additional 3,000 soldiers to help Russia amid the ongoing war with Ukraine, AFP reported Thursday.
"It is estimated that an additional 3,000 troops were sent between January and February as reinforcements," South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said, noting that North Korea continues to send missiles, artillery and ammunition to Moscow.
"In addition to manpower, North Korea continues to supply missiles, artillery equipment, and ammunition," the report by the JCS said.
The report also estimated that North Korea sent earlier 11,000 soldiers to Russia, of which at least 4,000 were believed to have been killed or wounded on the frontlines.
Amid reports and speculations about the military cooperation between Russia and North Korea, neither Moscow nor Pyongyang had officially made a statement to confirm the troop deployment.
However, the two countries agreed during Russian President Vladimir Putin's rare visit to North Korea in 2024 on a deal for a sweeping military, including a mutual defence clause, AFP further mentioned.
