A taste of exotic Africa comes from Zambia to the Middle East this summer, as Starbucks brings its latest and exceptional Black Apron Exclusive™ #13 – Zambia Terranova Estate coffee to tantalise the tastebuds of coffee lovers.
Black Apron Exclusive™ (BAE) coffees are the most outstanding and exceptional coffees the world has to offer. Discovered by Starbucks coffee buyers on farms around the world, BAE coffees are prized for their flavour and distinctiveness. Zambia Terranova Estate being the latest in the selection is best described as soft, complex and nuanced, with notes of black tea, stone fruit and a cocoa finish, resulting in layers of flavour and complexity very rare in a single region offering.
“When I took my first sip of Zambia Terranova Estate, I was overwhelmed by its taste and felt a sense of pride that this fine coffee was sourced from the first Coffee and Farmer Equity (C.A.F.E.) Practices verified supplier in Africa,” said Maan Kouly, Senior Operations Manager for Starbucks Coffee Middle East. "By introducing these high quality coffees, which are available in limited quantities, we aim to provide our customers across the Middle East with a glimpse of exotic Africa," Kouly added.
C.A.F.E Practices are Starbucks sustainable coffee buying guidelines that were originally developed between the Company and Conservation International in pursuit of ethical coffee-buying guidelines. Terranova Estate became a supplier under this programme in 2003. For producing a Black Apron Exclusives coffee, Terranova Estate was awarded $15,000 to help fund a project that will improve the lives of the farmers in the community of origin.
